“I wanted to express the meaning and significance a black woman’s natural hair means. Years of judgment Afro hair got but also the power it held. Going in with a white gel pen on the watercolor in the hair creating a movement affect. Giving the hair shape and movement allowing the painting to speak for itself. This piece also resonated with me because I myself wear my natural hair and it took me years to appreciate it.”
